A lorry Crushed a student of the Federal Polytechnic Ede, Tawakalitu Akintoye to death. The horrific incident occurred at the weekend in Ede, Osun State.
The lorry was set ablaze by students of the institution. Our correspondent reports that a violent protest erupted when students took the law into their hands and burnt down the lorry involved in the accident.
It was gathered that the lorry hit the motorcycle carrying late Tawakalitu, a 28-year-old HND1
Accounting student, to the school. The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Folasade Odoro, while confirming the incident yesterday said some miscreants attempted to hijack the incident, adding that police were on top of the situation.
“There was a fatal accident along the polytechnic road in Ede and a team from the Motor Trafic Department arrived the scene on time but the students disallowed them from performing their duties as a result of which a patrol team was dispatched there. The team pacified the students to remain calm, but unfortunately, a group attacked the policemen and injured one of them on the head,” he said.
The PPRO also confirmed the arrest of two persons over the incident and urged people of the town to go about their normal businesses as normalcy has returned.
