You know how much we prayed for the strike to be called off when ASUU struck? Well polytechnic students are still praying as ASUP has refused to call off the strike, as a matter of fact, the students are threatening to disrupt the ConFab meeting going on in the nation's capital, Abuja
Polytechnic students are planning to bolix the ongoing national confab in Abuja next week Wednesday to protest months of closure of their schools. Thousands “will mobilize” to join their lecturers from polytechnics and colleges of education, who already have made plans to protest in Abuja next week.
Why in God's name is this strike still lingering??
On Friday morning, buses with several polytechnic students blocked the traffic at Federal Secretariat junction in central Abuja to protest their many months of stay at home.
They demanded, not requested, demanded the immediate removal of the education minister Nyesom Wike, insisting on placards that he was “weak” and “incompetent.” They also called on the federal government to meet their demands and targets.
The protesters came from states across the
country—Anambra, Adamawa, Kogi, Niger. Heavy police presence met the protesters at federal secretariat not to stop them but to control their flow and movement.
Only hundreds were mobilized for the protest in
Central Abuja, but there is hope of seeing a larger numbers as protesters to reach out to fellow polytechnic students via social medias.
“We want to send information to people that are not here today. By next week Wednesday we are stopping the confab in Abuja again,” said Oyeniyi
